Mandatory Reporting by IAB General Member Companies
(for the purposes of accurately calculating 2010 IAB dues)
Each year, the IAB requires all General Members to report their previous calendar year’s U.S. domestic interactive advertising revenues for determination of the following year’s dues. In order to accurately calculate and facilitate the billing of dues, we must receive your completed forms no later than September 5th. This figure must include all interactive ad sales revenues from the member organization, including any and all subsidiary divisions or majority-owned companies that have not already joined independently.
Your 2010 IAB dues will be based on your 2008 total calendar year’s U.S. interactive ad sales revenues. Dues for General Members are calculated on a sliding scale based on the total net U.S. domestic interactive advertising revenue by the General Member and all its included subsidiaries in the calendar year two years prior to the calendar year in which membership will be held. Net revenue is defined as total interactive advertising revenue minus any fees paid to content partners, and includes any interactive advertising revenues paid to the company from other content partners. Sales rep firms or ad networks should apply commission-only advertising revenues. If a web site uses a sales rep form, ad revenues will be gross revenues less the rep firm commissions. No other costs, including but not limited to taxes, staff costs, expenses, or customer/audience acquisition costs may be subtracted from the total revenue figure for the purpose of the calculation of net revenues.
Advertising revenues are all U.S. revenues from online, email, wireless, interactive television, video-on-demand or other emerging platforms and can include banners/buttons/IMUs, text ads, classified ads and auctions, rich media, broadband video commercials, sponsorships, lead generation, mobile advertising (including SMS), email, in-game and in-application advertising, referrals, keyword searches, slotting fees, and mini-sites. It excludes house ads. Sales rep firms or ad networks should apply commission-only advertising revenues. If a web site uses a sales rep form, ad revenues will be gross revenues less the rep firm commissions.
When including the revenues of subsidiaries, please keep in mind the following two points:
- If an acquired company or division was not yet a part of the member company two years previously, its interactive ad revenues from two years prior still count towards and must be included in the revenue calculation.
- If a company or division has been divested, but was a part of the member company two years previously, its interactive ad revenues from two years prior should be removed from the total for the purpose of the revenue calculation.
Dues are based on self-reported revenues; however, IAB reserves the right to have a third party verify the revenue number. The IAB holds this data in the strictest confidence.
