Internet Advertising Revenues Set First Quarter Record at
$8.4 Billion

Internet advertising revenues for the first quarter of 2012 set a new record for the reporting period at $8.4 billion, according to the latest IAB Internet Advertising Report from IAB and PwC U.S. It is the highest first-quarter revenue ever measured by the IAB and PwC and a $1.1 billion—or 15 percent increase—over the $7.3 billion figure reported in the first quarter 2011. Spotlight on Mobile Marketing

In preparation for the upcoming IAB Mobile Marketplace on July 16 in New York, the IAB Mobile Marketing Center of Excellence unveiled several new resources and research studies to continue propelling the platform forward.

  • With consumers increasingly turning to mobile devices to access the web, the Mobile Center launched “Tap into Mobile,” an online hub featuring an array of resources for optimizing sites for the mobile web. Designed to be a one-stop-shop for companies and organizations seeking to elevate their digital presence for mobile users, Tap into Mobile features a digital dashboard that allows visitors to analyze their web site’s mobile experience to determine how optimize it. The IAB Mobile Center also released research to support the need for Tap into Mobile. Developing a snapshot of the mobile web, the Mobile Center reviewed the 2012 Fortune 500 list of the U.S.’s largest companies, and uncovered that almost half (45%) do not have mobile-optimized sites.   • The IAB Mobile Developer & Agency Directory, a database for finding vendors that can help develop a mobile strategy and more fully leverage mobile for marketing and advertising efforts. Applicable developers and agencies simply need to enroll. More »
  • The Mobile Marketing Center in the U.S., IAB Europe, and IHS Screen Digest joined forces to size the mobile advertising market at global and regional levels. This is the first such initiative by digital advertising trade bodies. They valued the 2011 global mobile advertising market at $5.3 Billion (€3.8 Billion). Underneath the global figure for 2011 are regional shares of: Europe 25.9%; North America 31.4%; Latin America 3.5%; Asia-Pacific 35.9%; Middle East & Africa 3.2%. More »

Nick Law Serves as First Chair for IAB MIXX Awards—and Deadline Extended to July 20

R/GA's Nick Law, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of North America, winner of eight Cannes Lions, has been tapped to be the first-ever Judging Panel Chair for the IAB MIXX Awards.

Randall Rothenberg Moderates All-Day Mobile Forum at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity

IAB President and CEO Randall Rothenberg moderated a first-ever all-day forum on June 19 devoted to “Creativity in Mobile Advertising” at The Cannes Lions annual Festival of Creativity – six sessions in all, including a grand finale roundtable that spotlighted “The IAB Creative Showcase: Secrets of the Mobile Superstars.” Featuring several industry notables, the forum unveiled stunning examples of the best mobile creative, and revealed critical insights on how to take advantage of the breakthrough opportunities in mobile today. IAB Advertising Technology Marketplace Goes Beyond Acronyms and Algorithms to Define Value

On June 21, IAB held its Advertising Technology Marketplace, themed “Beyond Acronyms and Algorithms…Defining Value in the Marketplace.” Event Highlights.

During the conference, IAB released new research revealing that innovative attribution models are shifting how media is bought and sold. The Digital Attribution Comes Of Age study analyzes the drivers of this shift and reveals several trends that are shaping the practice of digital attribution. IAB also released The IAB Digital Attribution Primer, to provide clarity on what’s happening in this arena. More »

Long Tail Alliance ‘Fly-In’ Brings 44 Small Publishers from 18 States to Washington, D.C.

On June 4-5, IAB brought together small publishers from around the United States to Capitol Hill for the IAB Fourth Annual Long Tail Alliance ‘Fly-In’. Members of the IAB Long Tail Alliance joined IAB in the nation’s capital to meet with members of the U.S. Congress and their staffs to give legislators and policymakers a better, fuller understanding of the issues facing online entrepreneurs. IAB Secures Two Billion Impressions for ‘Your AdChoices’ Consumer Education Campaign

After mounting a comprehensive initiative to support the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) and its new “Your AdChoices” consumer education campaign, IAB hit a major milestone, securing two billion committed impressions for this pro bono promotional effort. Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) has also partnered with DAA to boost the campaign’s visibility. Aimed to build more trust among Internet users by explaining how online advertising works, “Your AdChoices” was created by the DAA along with MRM, a McCann Worldgroup company. More »
