$6.4 Billion in Q3 2010 Sets New Record for Internet Advertising Revenues


graphU.S. Internet advertising revenues hit $6.4 billion in the third quarter of 2010, representing the highest quarterly result ever for the online advertising industry and a 17% increase from the same period in 2009. The third quarter 2010 revenue estimates were released on November 17 by the IAB and PwC US. “The Internet has transformed consumers’ lives and how they experience entertainment, information and brands,” said Randall Rothenberg, President and Chief Executive Officer, IAB. “Marketers have embraced digital media because that's where they can engage with their consumers. This vibrant, innovative industry is creating jobs and contributing to the growth of the U.S. economy.”

468x60_staticIn a bold move to fuel online creativity and move more brand marketing dollars to interactive, the IAB is hosting the Rising Stars Ad Format Competition to develop new ad formats that will enhance the already existing IAB standard ad units. Companies and individuals are invited to submit their ad format candidates to a selection process led by a cross-disciplinary group that includes agency creative directors, media executives and ad operations specialists, who will judge the ad formats for their potential to drive brand equity at scale. The contest is the latest development in Reimagining Interactive Advertising, an effort by the IAB to refashion consumers’ experience of interactive brand advertising.

IAB and Mobile Marketing Association Announce “Mobile Web Advertising Measurement Guidelines”


To standardize key metrics for the mobile interactive industry for the first time ever, the IAB and the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) released “Mobile Web Advertising Measurement Guidelines” for public comment. The joint project provides agencies, marketers and other ecosystem members with industry-standard methodology for measuring ad delivery within mobile web sites. Developed with the assistance of the Media Rating Council, the guidelines will provide a framework to govern how ad impressions are counted on the mobile web. The public comment period ends Friday, December 10.
