Keep Up With the User-Driven Revolution: IAB Mobile Marketing Center of Excellence Leads the Charge
The IAB Mobile Marketing Center of Excellence, led by Anna Bager as Vice President and General Manager, has made great strides pushing the industry to keep up with user expectations of mobile marketing since launching nine months ago. There's more to be done—improving expertise at ad agencies, more consumer access to flat-fee data packages, viable cross-media metrics—and Bager isn’t backing down. She addressed how agencies and brand marketers need to be working harder to catch up, consumer privacy issues, measurement, and much more in a recent Q & A session.

What do you see as the biggest hurdle or problem to overcome in the mobile marketing space?
Users are way more advanced than the companies are. They expect things
to work. They expect companies to have a mobile website. They expect to
find the app they’re looking for. They are more proactive, they’re
searching. Because of how personal it is consumers expect mobile
advertising to come to life as a service rather than as straight
advertising. We’re not totally there yet. Really, mobile is a
user-driven revolution. Marketers are beginning to come on board. They
are starting to include mobile into their marketing strategies, which is
really where it has to be. It’s really on the agency side that we need
better take up and better understanding. We need agencies to really
start innovating and promoting mobile to their clients.

Making Measurement Make Sense Releases Five-Part Measurement Solution
The Making Measurement Make Sense initiative, a joint venture of the ANA (Association of National Advertisers), the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau), and the 4A’s (American Association of Advertising Agencies) has produced a five-part digital marketing measurement framework that brings the industry one big step closer to the creation of a cross-platform currency. The cornerstone is the first measurement principle: the move from a served impression to a viewable impression standard. This shift will enable advertisers to obtain information about impressions that are actually viewable by online consumers, rather than those that have simply been served whether seen or not.
